Abbatial Election

On February 11th, all the Solemnly Professed sisters gathered in church for the abbatial election, under the presidency of Dom Vincent Rogers, OCSO, abbot of Spencer.

After calling on the Holy Spirit's aid with the Veni Creator Spiritus and hearing a reading from the Rule of St Benedict, we cast our votes.  Mother Sofia was re-elected for a second six-year term as abbess. Having confirmed the election, Dom Vincent presented Mother Sofia with the monastery seal and keys, and led her to her choir stall, where she received the pectoral cross.  After this, each sister renewed her Promise of Obedience, and then we sang a Te Deum in thanksgiving.

We begin anew, embarking into the deep waters with the wind of the Spirit in our sails.
