Mother Maureen Ndubuisi, former superior of our sister community in Abakaliki, Nigeria, has come to spend sabbatical time with us. So now we have two Mothers Maureen...what to do? Having encountered one another at three General Chapters, the two Maureens are happy enough to share a name, although in a pinch, we may fall back on our own Mother Maureen's family nickname, and call her Mother Merry!
The community of St Justina's Monastery in Abakaliki was founded in 1982 by Sr Justina, a Nigerian member of the community of Glencairn, Ireland, which is also our motherhouse. Mother Maureen entered the community in 1998 as a transfer, having spent 24 years as a Handmaid of the Holy Child Jesus. In 2009, she was elected superior of the community and served in this role until the end of her term this year. Upon the election of Mother Regina Nebo as her successor, Mother Maureen has come to us for a time of rest and renewal. We are so blessed by her presence among us.
