Sr Ana Laura Forastieri, a nun of our monastery in Hinojo, Argentina who is currently living with us in community, has been the delegate to Latin America for the cause of declaring St Gertrude a Doctor of the Church since 2012. In September 2016, she began the work of promoting the cause in the US.
St Gertrude (1256 – ca. 1302), was a Benedictine nun of the monastery of Helfta, in present-day Germany, which followed Cistercian customs. She was known as a mystic, writer and spiritual director. Her works, which include the Herald of God's Loving Kindness and The Spiritual Exercises, are a rich source of Biblical and liturgical spirituality.
Sr Ana Laura presented to us a summary of the origins of the cause, the requirements for recognition as Doctor of the Church, and her own work as delegate for the cause.
