On August 8, we celebrated Sr Pamela's Golden Jubilee. She has followed Christ in religious vows for fifty years in all, first as a Dominican of San Rafael, from 1970-1982, and then as a Cistercian at Mount Saint Mary's Abbey, from 1982 to the present.
COVID restrictions meant that a day which would have included the presence of family, friends and neighbors was instead just us. Nevertheless, we live-streamed our liturgy so that as many as possible could be spiritually present with us, and we did everything to make it a memorable day.
After Lauds, we met in Chapter for Mother's special address for the jubilarian.

At noon, we enjoyed a festive meal in the Refectory. The jubilarian's choice of Chinese dishes was much appreciated.
That evening we met once again in Chapter for some words from the jubilarian. Sr Pamela's sense of call to prayer for the people and Church of China led her to choose the Chinese character for "Love" as her emblem for the day. Sisters were invited to contribute to a poster bearing the word for "love" in many other languages of the world. We had fun trying to figure out which was which.
All in all, our Jubilee day was one of joy and thanksgiving, as we recognize once again the beautiful gift of our sister, our community and our vocation.
