On Contemplation and Action

Let this, then, my brothers, be the model of your life; for such is the rule of holy living: with Christ, to live in thought and desire in our eternal country; for Christ to refuse no service of charity in this harsh earthly existence. In imitation of Christ, to ascend to the Father, letting oneself be calmed, simplified, and unified in restful meditation; in imitation of Christ, to descend to one's brothers, letting oneself be distended, torn, shared, divided, becoming all in all in action. Disdain nothing that concerns Christ, and do not be concerned with anything that is not for Christ. Thirst for Christ alone, and attend to him alone where there is Christ alone. Give yourselves gladly to the service of all where his presence is multiplied.
